If the thought of spending eight hours in a cramped airplane cabin fills you with dread, don’t worry. With some careful planning and a few familiar comforts, a long-haul flight can turn into a pleasant experience. 

Take note of these 7 tips on how to make the most of your journey, so that you arrive at your destination feeling rejuvenated, calm, and eager to kick off your vacation.

1. Choose comfortable attire for lengthy flights

It’s essential to select an outfit that you’ll still feel comfortable in after spending ten hours seated on a plane. Keep in mind that remaining stationary and being exposed to strong air conditioning can leave you feeling chilly, so it’s best to wear loose layers that allow you to adjust your body temperature as you travel. Leave your jewelry for the vacation and pack it in your checked luggage since it tends to trigger alarms at airport security.

Opt for closed-toed shoes instead of flip flops, especially for emergencies, and avoid footwear that fits too snugly as your feet can swell at high altitudes. And if you’re saving space in your suitcase by wearing bulky boots, you can always take them off and slip into a pair of cozy slipper socks for added comfort.

2. Reserve a comfy seat

4. While some airlines may require waiting until closer to the departure date, it’s advisable to go online as soon as check-in opens to handpick your desired seat.

3. Get ready to Sleep

Get ready for some much-needed sleep during your long-haul flight by packing a few essentials. Make sure to include a lightweight blanket and invest in a quality travel pillow to prevent aching necks. Tune out the presence of fellow passengers by using a comfortable sleep mask and a pair of earplugs. Additionally, don’t forget to pack basic toiletries like a travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste, so you can feel refreshed upon arrival.

7. Stay hydrated

If possible, bring a sealed water bottle on board or purchase one at the airport due to liquid restrictions. Having an empty plastic bottle in your hand luggage allows you to save water provided by the cabin crew for later use.
